This week’s Come Follow Me lesson focuses on D&C 30-36. Sections 30 and 32 discuss the Mission to the Lamanites.
The demographics of Latin America show that, apart from the indigenous populations (Amerindians) whose ancestry is north Asian (mtDNA Haplogroups A, B, C, and D), the ancestors of most of the population originated in Europe. It was the incongruence between the DNA evidence and Orson Pratt’s hemispheric model (Lamanites are the ancestors of all the Latin Americans) that caused such confusion and led to rewording the Introduction to the Book of Mormon from “principal ancestors” to “among the ancestors” of the American Indians. Sadly, with the rotating schedule between Sunday School (1st and 3rd Sundays) and PH/RS, coverage of this vitally important part of church history (Mission to the Lamanites–Saints Vol I incorrectly calls it a Mission to the West) will be overlooked because there will NOT be a Zoom meeting for Sunday School on 11 April 2021. Families and Individuals at home will also not notice because of the scant coverage in Come Follow Me, Doctrine and Covenants 2021.Sad, very sad!
Fortunately, I was able to make a statement near the end of my ward’s 28 March 2021 Sunday School Zoom lesson covering D&C 27-28. Surprisingly, the Sunday School manual on page 50 states, “Why was Oliver Cowdery’s mission to the Lamanites significant.” However, the teacher steered away from any discussion about Oliver Cowdery and Lamanites. I waited patiently for this engaging discussion–nothing happened. Fortunately, there was an opportunity for me to make a statement from Parley P. Pratt’s Autobiography near the end of the lesson (see below). The class seemed disinterested.
Here is what I wrote in another blog on 25 March 2021.
In Sections 28, 30, and 32 of the Doctrine and Covenants, the Lords calls Oliver Cowdery, Parley P. Pratt, Ziba Peterson, and Peter Whitmer Jr. on a Mission to the Lamanites. Sadly, Saints Vol I calls it a mission to the West on pages 98 and 108. Page 117 calls it an Indian Mission. Saints Vol I does not use the word “indigenous” which is just fine. Clearly scholars and editors are revising church history and the words of the Lord.
Even sadder is the fact that at least 3, Saints Vol I footnotes, refers to the Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt (which describes their 1830-31 travels and what Oliver told the Delaware Indians). Footnote 6 (spanning almost 2 pages) refers to pages 56-60. However, the most amazing words are found on page 59 at https://archive.org/details/autobiographyofp1874prat/page/58/mode/2up
“This Book, which contained these things, was hid in the earth by Moroni, in a hill called by him, Cumorah, which hill is now in the state of New York, near the village of Palmyra, in Ontario county.”
Saints Vol I had to censor Cumorah and Oliver Cowdery’s Mission to the Lamanites and many other aspects of church history (Mary Whitmore story and brother Nephi, Zelph, Moroni’s cement and stone box, etc.) because it destroys the Mesoamerican model of geography. Saints Vol I, Chapter 11, page117, Footnote 6 refers to pages 56-60 of Pratt’s Autobiography. Pratt’s statement about Cumorah was censored!
During this 1830-31 Mission to the Lamanites, the Cattaraugus were taught near Buffalo, NY, the Wyandot in Ohio and the Delaware in what would become Indian Territory in 1834 and later the state of Kansas. The 1830 Indian Removal Act relocated many native tribes from the eastern United States to what would become Kansas and Oklahoma.
D&C 54:8 (given in June 1831 at Kirtland)
8 And thus you shall take your journey into the regions westward, unto the land of aMissouri, unto the borders of the Lamanites.
D&C 57:1-4 (given 20 July 1831 near Independence, Jackson County, Missouri)
1 Hearken, O ye elders of my church, saith the Lord your God, who have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments, in this land, which is the land of aMissouri, which is the bland which I have appointed and cconsecrated for the dgathering of the saints.
2 Wherefore, this is the aland of promise, and the bplace for the city of cZion.
3 And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the acenter place; and a spot for the btemple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse.
4 Wherefore, it is wisdom that the land should be apurchased by the saints, and also every tract lying westward, even unto the line running directly bbetween Jew and Gentile;
Footnote b in verse 4, states, “IE by metonymy “Jew” here refers to the Lamanites, and “Gentile” to the white settlers.”
There is no doubt that the Lord knew where the Lamanites were living 1830-31. The Gospel didn’t go to Guatemala until 1947!
Southern Boarder CRISIS
President Biden’s disorder at the border by Executive Order is a disaster and he is trying to keep it hidden from the public by keeping cameras and news reporters out of the area. The Cartels and terrorists are taking advantage of a weak official masquerading as president and the innocent children are suffering.
Strengthen the Stakes of Zion [Gather in the Stakes of Zion]
President Harold B. Lee
6 April 1973
In this talk, President Lee quoted Bruce R. McConkie from an address he gave in Aug 1972 at the Mexico City Area Conference. Elder McConkie said,
“The place of gathering for the Mexican Saints is in Mexico; the place of gathering for the Guatemalan Saints is in Guatemala; the place of gathering for the Brazilian Saints is in Brazil; and so it goes throughout the length and breadth of the whole earth. Japan is for the Japanese; Korea is for the Koreans; Australia is for the Australians; every nation is the gathering place for its own people.”

I see lots of DNA stories about how the Book of Mormon is wrong because the fools are comparing Central and South American DNA and not Haplogroup X2 around the Great Lakes. I tried to get 23andme to donate 500 DNA test kits to test Native Americans. They refused!
In this past General Conference, it was extremely refreshing to hear at least 2 speakers use words like “American Continent” or “Ancient America” vice “the Americas.”
I was listening to one of the many CFM podcasts and a commentator on one of them, remarked concerning the mission to the lamanites being directed to a people in the US, that the early church members didn’t know better! Considering that if we believe the D&C, it is the Lord directing Joseph to where the missionaries were directed to go, this commentator should know better!
Sadly, I see numerous CFM YouTube videos spewing all kinds of false teachings especially on geography, Oliver Cowdery’s mission to the Lamanites, and the seer stone in the hat. They get the junk from Saints Vol I.
