Only when things are investigated is knowledge extended;
only when knowledge is extended are thoughts sincere;
only when thoughts are sincere are minds rectified;
only when minds are rectified are the characters of persons cultivated;
only when character is cultivated are our families regulated;
only when families are regulated are states well governed;
only when states are well governed is there peace in the world.

One thought on “Only when…”
I am realizing that every statement made for the new narrative rather than what was taught in the Church needs to be challenged. From what source are alternative statements derived? Who actually said it? As I read the excerpt from the book, Darkness Into Light, I had the feeling of being told an opinion without references to back it up. Jonathon Neville has developed a list of what JS said compared to what some with influence in the education system of the a Church say and I’m hoping he or someone will compile a list of all the statements that deviate from what was the norm in the early days of the a restoration and insist that documentation be provided for the changes. In rough Stone Rolling as well as this new DintoL book, it seems the changes are opinions of the writers rather than solid documentation from Church leaders. For instance, I want Joseph Smith’s actual statement saying that through the use of the seer stone he gained knowledge of how to translate the Book of Mormon, and not the opinion of some writer that that’s how it happened.
