Manhattan Ward’s Come Follow Me lesson in SITH vs U&T

Yesterday a Sunday School class in the Manhattan Ward (New York City) discussed my approach to SITH (stone-in-the-hat) vs U&T (Urim and Thummim). You can watch the lesson on youtube here:

I think they did a great job explaining the concept. What do you think?

  1. Do you subscribe to the “Demonstration Hypothesis” as the origins of the SITH theory? I think this was a very good Sunday School class. It presents “a variety of views, interpretations and opinions and allow[s] people to make informed decision on what to believe.” This is the way. [Shameless Mandalorian reference]

    1. Yes, the demonstration hypothesis is the best explanation I know of. Otherwise we’re left with believing either Joseph and Oliver, or David Whitmer and Emma’s so-called “Last Testimony,” which everyone in Utah said was a complete lie (at least regarding polygamy).

It was an excellent Sunday School with lots of alternative opinions. Just what we all want, I think. (Sadly, I’ve never had time to watch the Mandalorian!)

      🙂

  2. I was intrigued by the teacher’s comparison of The Urim & Thummim and cellphones particularly at 29:08 when addressing the issues of power supply and containing needed information. The Brother of Jared didn’t just find nice stones to use as light sources for their ships but crafted them, “did molten out of a rock sixteen small stones; and they were white and clear, even as transparent glass” i.e. “crystals”. Also, from how I understand the descriptions of the Urim and Thummim (including the teacher’s), the stones in the silver bow were transparent and crystal-like in nature as well. Got me thinking on how crystals can be used as power sources (piezoelectrics) as well as being able to efficiently receive/store/retrieve hundreds of terabytes worth of information. I came across this recent scientific article on breaking technology that I find fascinating pertaining to the subject, particularly the last sentence of the 1st paragraph.

Wanted to share the information with the teacher but I can’t leave comments on the YouTube page. Hoping someone here has access to share the information to the teacher.
