I am a semi-retired university professor now working in the private sector. I am trained as a plant community/ecosystem ecologist with over 30 years of field experience. My speciality is in the data acquisition and processing of natural color, color infrared (multispectral and hyperspectral), and thermal imagery. I work with imagery to build high resolution 3-D models of the land and vegetation surfaces using point clouds and a process called structure from motion. I am glad to advise you on possible applications of the technology for archeology studies. I worked with prominent anthropologist on the dark earth soils of the Amazonian basin and have been the Keynote speaker or invited speaker at over 100 national and international conferences around the world on the applications of drone technology in agriculture and natural resource management. I tell you all this to let you know I am very interested in helping if I can. I am a strong believer that the Cumorah of the Book of Mormon can only be in New York State.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin Price

Has there ever been a church history tour where they have gone across the river to where Zarahemla is thought to be?

Johnathan I really enjoy everything you address. I would like your response to my thoughts. Abraham gave us the law of circumcision from the Lord. In Moroni 8 verse 8 tells us that law of circumcision was fulfilled as was the Law of Moses. Could it be that the curse of Cain not holding the priesthood was fulfilled by Christ as was the law of circumcision and the law of moses
That’s a good possibility. The term “curse of Adam” is unique to Moroni 8:8. Because I think Joseph Smith actually translated the plates, I look at what that term may have meant to him. This is a discussion too extensive for a blog post, but here are some ideas related to a paper I’m presenting at the Mormon History Association in June.
Isaac Watts was an influential Christian author whose popular hymns include “Joy to the World.” The original title was “The Messiah’s Coming and Kingdom.” Our LDS version includes this verse: “He’ll come and make the blessings flow, Far as the curse was found.”
We assume that Watts meant the curse of Adam, but on one occasion, Watts equated the “curse of Adam” with the curse of Ham when he wrote about a religions tradition “at the Cape of Good Hope, which seems to relate to the curse of Adam, or Ham; the Hottentots have such a tradition.” The “Hottentots” were a tribe of black Africans.
Separately, Watts had discussed the various curses and blessings. He wrote that “The seed of Ham were cursed with slavery, for their father’s crime; Gen. ix.25.” That was a widespread belief at the time.
Obviously, we can’t say whether Joseph had any of this in mind when he translated the term “curse of Adam,” but there is support for your idea in the historical record.
